Mythwrite and Novelcrafter
Novelcrafter gets you to a draft. Mythwrite gets you to a book.
Novelcrafter and Mythwrite share a lot: a planning view, a story bible, and optional AI on your own key. The difference is what happens after the draft. Novelcrafter's help pages list Word and Markdown as its export formats, so formatting and publishing happen in another tool. Mythwrite carries on through proofing, publishing and audio in the same workspace, and it can import your Novelcrafter project, codex included.
45 days free, no card required. We make Mythwrite, so this page is not neutral; we have tried to be fair.
Who this page is for
- You draft in Novelcrafter and then pay for, or wrestle with, a separate formatting tool.
- You want proofing with tracked changes you can accept or reject, not just statistics.
- You want a record of how much of your book AI wrote, for a retailer's AI disclosure.
- You want a UK product with prices in pounds.
The short verdict
If you only need planning and AI drafting, and you value the widest choice of AI models, Novelcrafter is excellent. If you want to finish the job in the same place, proofing, formatting an EPUB and a print PDF, and producing audio, Mythwrite covers the stages Novelcrafter leaves to other tools. Moving is one ZIP export and one import.

Questions
Good to know.
Can I move my Novelcrafter project into Mythwrite?
Yes. In Novelcrafter, export the whole novel as a ZIP with prose and codex included. Import that ZIP into Mythwrite and check the preview: your chapters and scenes come across, and supported codex entries become Archivum entries. Our switching guide lists exactly what transfers and what does not.
Can Novelcrafter export an EPUB or print PDF?
Its help pages list Word (.docx) and Markdown as export formats, with guides for moving into Scrivener or Atticus. Mythwrite produces a publish-ready EPUB and print PDF itself.
Do both tools use my own AI key?
Yes. Both let you connect your own provider key, so AI usage is billed by the provider rather than bundled into the subscription. Mythwrite supports OpenRouter, Anthropic and OpenAI. Novelcrafter supports more providers, including local models.
Is Mythwrite cheaper than Novelcrafter?
Not on entry price. Compare the full cost of the route you need: if you draft in Novelcrafter and format in a separate tool, add both together. Both sets of prices are listed above with the date we checked.
Is this page neutral?
No, we make Mythwrite. We have stated only what Novelcrafter says on its own site, linked our sources, and said where Novelcrafter is the better choice.
