Mythwrite and Scrivener
Mythwrite as a Scrivener alternative
Scrivener is the long-standing desktop writing studio for big projects, and many writers love it. Mythwrite is a browser-based workspace built around the novel itself. They suit different habits, and some writers will happily use both.
45 days free, no card required. We make Mythwrite, so this page is not neutral; we have tried to be fair.
Who this page is for
- You want your manuscript available on any device without installing anything.
- You want a story bible, proofing and publishing connected to your draft.
- You like Scrivener's structure but want a more current workspace.
The short verdict
Scrivener is the better choice if you want a mature, offline desktop app with deep compile options, or if you do research-heavy or non-fiction work. Mythwrite is the better choice if you want a modern browser workspace with a story bible, AI proofing and publish-ready output.

Questions
Good to know.
Can I import a Scrivener project?
Mythwrite imports DOCX, Markdown and ZIP bundles. Scrivener can compile a project to Word, so a compiled DOCX is the practical route. We have not tested every Scrivener compile setting.
Does Scrivener work on Linux or Chromebook?
Its overview page lists macOS, Windows and iOS apps and no Linux or Chromebook version. Mythwrite runs in a browser, so it works on both.
Does Mythwrite work offline?
It is a web app, so you should expect to need a connection. If you need to write without one, Scrivener is the better fit.
Is this page neutral?
No, we make Mythwrite. Scrivener's details come from Literature & Latte's own pages, on the date below.
